We all know that everyone likes Japan, or maybe most of us do. Its like everything is picture worthy and we are not talking about their food yet. At Tomodachi Cafe, we let you at least feel Japan in terms of their street food.

Taiyaki has been one of the most popular street snack throughout Japan. It is a fish shape cake usually filled with red bean paste or anko あん. It is based from the word “tai” which means red sea bream, an expensive and rare type of fish usually eaten during New Year’s Day in the olden times in anticipation of good luck and “yaki” which means baked, hence the origin of the word taiyaki. During those times, average folks have limited opportunities to eat sea bream as it is considered expensive, so they just enjoy this fish shaped cake instead.
